Exploring Space with Plaster

Today at the studio I created this sculpture piece using plaster mixed with sand. Its structure was formed from a balloon where I have been exploring the concepts of space. The piece took two coating of plaster with different consistency of ratio of sand and plaster (water remaining the same to the ratio of plaster). I find using sand with plaster made the piece a lot stronger than plaster a only, as well as creating a more aesthetically pleasing piece with a closer relation to organic elements of stone.

I later release air from the balloon and removed it from the sculpture.. I plan to develop the piece further through craving techniques exploring the use/impression of space by creating holes and voids within the piece.
